Bucket List 7/2-7/8

This week's food: Kale Chips. Bella liked them. Then again, she likes almost everything that's a green, leafy vegetable!

My treat? The Container Store. The kids' treat? The Lego storage aisle. They played for about 20 minutes.

4th of July parade! SO hot, but the kids loved it!

Okay, they loved most of it. They didn't love the noise.

Ryan wasn't aggressive enough to get the candy being thrown on the street, so big sister helps out. They have enough candy to last them until Halloween!
Going to see fireworks. We had to wait an hour for them to start, and it was hot and Ryan was tired. I didn't think it was going to be a good idea...

Until the fireworks actually started going off. I closed the back gate, turned the air on, and they were happy little campers.

Bucket List: make new crayons out of our old broken ones. Not such a hit: the finished result was so-so, I accidentally melted the blue ice cube tray a bit, and the crayons left some weird residue on my heart-shaped pan. I ended up tossing both pans and I doubt either kid will use the frankenstein crayons. Live and learn.
Bella's 5th birthday party! It was supposed to be at a spray park, but the sky was a bit ominous. Plan B? Home.

Fruit kabobs that Bella helped with. Okay, so she made about 5 and kept wanting to take breaks to eat the fruit, but still.

Cupcakes to go with the "Tinkerbell" theme.

Opening presents. She got a ton of fun toys (which I've tucked away to bring out a little at a time) and had a blast playing with some of her church friends.

A look of pure, 5-year-old joy!

Getting Caught Up

So, when I went to upload the Easter pictures from the camera to the computer, I realized that there were a TON that I hadn't added! Mostly because Joshua took the camera with him to New Orleans and then I forgot about it while it sat in his closet. So, here's me, playing catch-up! P.S. Some of the photos and captions got all screwy, so that's why things aren't quite right.
This week's food: Sharon fruit (persimmon).
Survey says: So-so. Nothing amazing, nothing terrible.
We swapped the kids' rooms around so Bella could have some privacy and Ryan wasn't sleeping in a minty green room. Now Bella has a place to work and draw.

And plenty of princess wall decals, a play kitchen, and cubbies for her stuff. She's in love!
Ryan gets a Cars-themed room, which HE loves. The first night they swapped rooms, Bella slept in the bed on the right. They were having a "sleepover" she told me.
We made a music/reading nook for Ryan. He too has plenty of cubbies for all his stuff, and of course, his CD player!
Bella and I had some "gore time" one day. We went shopping! Here's one of the probably 20 hats Bella tried on in the store.
This is so Minnie Pearl-it even has the price tag hanging down!
Our other fruit? Ugli fruit. Our was pretty dried out by the time we got around to eating it.

But Bella didn't care! It was yummy!
Since we're going to be here a while, I decided to pretend we have a backyard and set up a sandbox for the kids. As you can see here, even if they have to have coats on, they're going to play outside!

Love my adorable children!
Notice how my hand is hovering around Ryan and the food coloring! He did a great job (the whisk helped).

Bella was like a mad scientist with her eggs-I'm glad I snapped this picture of how they looked. Because then she'd say, "Let's put this one in some green. And then some blue." There were a fair share of brown eggs by the time she was done!

The kids before church. Spiffy clothes, no shoes. Yep, that about covers it!

The Easter Egg hunt. They had a blast. Ryan found one later while he was on the deck and had a fit to get downstairs and retrieve it!

Food of the Week

Bear with me and my photography. I'm trying to get past using the "Auto" button all the time and, while the photos might look okay in the tiny screen on the camera, by the time they're big, I see the error of my ways. So that's why everything is yellow. I'll get the hang of it.
This week's fruit was papaya. Bella couldn't wait for me to get it cut, so she ate a seed. "They're bit!" (which is her term for spicy, like pepper). She wasn't very excited to try the fruit.
But then she had some. She loved it. I mean, loved it. I had to smack her hand away from grabbing bites while I was cutting. I finally just gave her a whole section and she ate it like an ear of corn. She now yells, "PAPAYA!!!!" and gets very excited when I pull it out for her. I thought it was okay; Ryan wasn't impressed, and Joshua wouldn't even try it.

Food of the Week

So, despite the man at the store telling us it was papaya, we brought home this Ataulfo mango. It was rather small and the outside was the same color as the flesh you see below. It did not go over well. Neither of us liked it. On to the next food...

Food of the Week

This week's food? Rainbow swiss chard. It sure looked pretty! I sauteed it and it we had it with some pasta and grapes. Survey said? Nope. Not a favorite here at the Hasseld household. On to next week's food!
