I've written about doing this before. Inspired by Ann Voskamp over at A Holy Experience, I began a list of 1,000 things starting in 2010. My "things" are ways that I've seen God answer prayer, funny things the kids have said, or just moments I want to capture in my mind.
In the spirit of end-of-the-year looking back, I'd like to share a few of the things that made the list this past year, that began with #1342:
1348. Bella's happy "Musi-musica!" when she put on undies and jammies fresh from the dryer. (Why she chooses to say "music" in Spanish remains a mystery.)
1355. Footie jammies and princess heels.
1373. Payday in piggy banks.
1384. Bella and Ryan sliding at Snapperz in some crazy death grip.
1389. Bella telling Ryan: "You can be first president of my car and you can sit in the seat where the steering wheel isn't."
1395. Spending extra time at Meijer because the lobsters were fighting (it was cool...).
1412. Bella's tears at getting married, moving away, and never seeing me again.
1427. Joshua's Valentine's Day surprise: three hours at the local day spa, then Macaroni Grill takeout.
1431. Seeing my vision expressed: my little 3s and 4s singing their hearts out at church this morning.
1437. Telling Joshua about my $400 Bare Minerals wish list and him going, "That's not bad." I mean, seriously!
1456. A day of sun and 70s.
1459. Bella and Ryan's crazy golf cart driving.
1464. Dad's "minner cheese." Nothing like it!
1467. Shopping. Shallow? Yes. Financially prudent? Not really. Fulfilling? Absolutely.
1472. "The secret to having it all is to realize you already do."
1498. First bike ride of the season.
1501. Asking Bella what she's doing up at 10:45 pm. "Working on things."
1505. Ryan in bed with me, laying on our sides, chatting with each other.
1521. Quiet end of day.
1530. Answered prayer: cousin Lori's daughter Ava Grace.
1534. Both dancing to "76 Trombones"-Ryan doing so pantless.
1541. Grace. So needed. So welcome.
1550. Me and my ducklings walking to the bus stop.
1554. Waking up from a nap to see a plate of cookies and a glass of milk.
1563. The bus pulling away, Ryan grabbing my hand and saying, "It's just me and you, Mom."
1576. The sudden flush of color in all the trees.
1601. Nine hours of sleep.
1603. All three of us doing yoga on the floor.
1608. The kids "arguing" over who gets to pray first, then thanking God for each other in their prayers. I mean, honestly.
1615. Bella telling me she has too many toys and wants to declutter. Yep, definitely my kid!
1626. A kind stranger paying for our breakfast on the road.
1635. The Star Wars theme blasting in Jeff's car. He's like a superhero to the kids now!
1636. Real skyscrapers, not the 10-story office buildings the kids think are skyscrapers.
1647. Slowing down long enough to read an article on meditation (the irony of that is not lost on me).
1663. The autumnal perfection of pumpkin chocolate-chip muffins.
1672. Trick or treating. As a family. As the Incredibles!
1683. Joshua picking me up from work in the rain-without me asking.
1687. Bella being proud that she knows how to spell DVD.
1694. Learning that I really, truly want to stay at home.
1700. Tucking my little ones in for the night.
1712. Mom's fried chicken.
1721. Little boy mesmerized by the water.
1727. Ryan's noogie times with Uncle Jeff.
1734. O, Holy Night. Best Christmas song ever!
1759. The Christmas story that never gets old, like a diamond with facets every time it's looked at again.
1788. Two children in Burkina-Faso who got our Operation Christmas Child boxes. Crying as I told the children that someday in heaven, there might be someone there because of their box.
1791. Holding Ryan in my arms while he sings "Emmanuel" with me at Christmas Eve service.
