We continue on with our Summer O' Fun! This week the kids made "time out bottles." While I don't really put the kids in time out, but the bottles are cool: a mix of glue, water, glitter glue, and glitter. It was potentially a recipe for disaster, but worked out quite well.
Naturally Bella chose fuchsia as her color. I love her Queen Esther dress and cowgirl hat. A stunning combo, really. |
I was REALLY afraid of Ryan with glitter and glue, but he did a great job. |
We went to the Indiana Historical Society-and it only took us four years to visit here! The museum had exhibits called "You Are There" where they had taken a picture from the past, and then recreated the whole thing for you to step into. Very interactive as you'll see...
This was the Eli Lily Hall. All the clocks in the museum are either stopped, or they run backward. |
Here the kids are locked up for makin' moonshine during Prohibition. |
They checked out "historical artifacts" like a typewriter (which they loved) and a phone, the kind where you hold the body in one hand and the earpiece in the other. |
They project the photograph onto a wall of mist, so you step through that into the recreated scene. This was boxes of polio vaccine being shipped. |
And of course because Bella is...well, Bella, she charmed the actors in the scene. Here she is behind the conveyor belt helping the nurse put bottles in boxes, then those boxes into shipping boxes. |
The kids were mesmerized by the Cole Porter room, which was set up like a lounge complete with "menus" of songs you could choose from. Here the kids are watching the piano because it played by itself. The man on the right was singing "Don't Fence Me In" which Bella was singing along to by the end. Just one of the seventeen hundred songs Cole Porter wrote in his lifetime! |
Our next item on the list was banana boats. We were supposed to grill them, but it was too hot! (105 actual temperature one day-hotter than
Cairo!)
So we punted. Bananas under the broiler. First, the layer of peanut butter... |
A sprinkle of chocolate chips... |
A handful of marshmallows (placed very deliberately if you're Bella). |
A few moments under the broiler and voila! I'm not a big fan of bananas, but these were amazing. |
Stay tuned for our next exciting episode!!!
