Well this month was certainly crazy! I had just told my family last Sunday that it had been a pretty "boring" month for Isabella-nothing really exciting going on. And then she took her first ambulance ride! I'm pretty sure everyone has heard the story, so I won't go into details. If you haven't heard, just email me. In true Isabella fashion, she was a trooper, enduring endless prods, pokes, sticks and wires. The nurses even commented on it. They also talked about how cute she was. When the doctor walked in she said, "I heard she was a cutie. They were right!" (Unabashed Mommy pride at that.) She actually got a kick out of her stay. They had a pulse oximeter (to measure blood oxygen levels) taped to her foot and it made her toes glow red. Very fun! She loved to try and eat her new red toes, and the "roof" of her bed was plastic, so she had fun moving her feet and watching the reflection above her. I wanted to get pictures of that, but just didn't remember-I was too excited to be getting discharged! And if I'd had the chance, I would've gotten a picture of her in the ambulance with the EMTs after the initial ride. Just the weird kind of Mommy I am. I had total peace about the whole thing, and it was wonderful to feel God's presence.
And other than that, nothing! lol But seriously, she continues to grow and babble and practice sitting up and a million other things that amaze me as she gets bigger.
One of the best times of the day is at night, when I'm getting Isabella ready for bed. She loves, loves, loves her bath, and I have fun watching her splash around. When I take her out and bundle her up in the towel, I always cover her face and then we play peek-a-boo. I say, "Where's my baby? There she is!" and her little eyes light up and last week she popped her head out of the towel. I can never capture that smile on film when I try, so I hope I remember it in my head. Few things cuter than a freshly-washed and lotioned Bella in her jammies with her hair all brushed down. Wouldn't you agree?
And paper! Oh, how we love paper! She spent a good half-hour on the floor with the Sunday paper shaking it, ripping it, and eating it. In the store, she will grunt until I give her my grocery list, and then it goes in her mouth until it's completely soaked and returned to its pulp form. Keeps her a happy camper!
She's in one of her "Valentine's Day outfits" that Nana bought her. (Nana is Joshua's grandma.) The hoodie has a big heart on it, and the pants have heart pockets.
Here's her other Valentine's Day outfit-a dress for church. We'd just gotten home so I put her in her bunny slippers. I can't remember who bought them for her, but I think they're adorable.
If you've never seen a picture of my cousin Jessica as a baby, this one below will do. It's spooky how much Bella looks like her Aunt Jessie. Then again, last week she was the spitting image of her Aunt Amy. I wonder if their kids will look like me?
You need the back story to truly appreciate this one. Despite her tiny size, this girl can EAT! And she sually wants to eat while I'm fixing dinner. To keep her happy I give her something to eat. This day it was a teething biscuit. She did a great job holding it and sliding it down her face until she found her mouth. It kept her quiet for a while. Then she dropped it and it got wedged between her chest and the high chair tray. And that's when she decided to slump forward and lick it like a lollipop!
One of the things she's working on is sitting up. At this point, she's able to sit alone without help for 20-30 minutes. This is the bouncy seat that Nana bought her and it's her ab workout. They should make this for adults!
Bells was in such a good mood the other day that I decided to do a fashion show with her. Here she is sporting her Valentine's Day outfit from Maga. And those aren't actual shoes on her feet-her tights end in little Mary Janes! Mom did a great job of adding ribbons and lace and heart buttons. The hat kills me-as hats always do on Bella.
The next two outfits are courtesy of Nana. She came back from Hawaii with wonderful gifts for everyone, especially Isabella, the best great-granddaughter in the world, in Nana's opinion. On a side note, I am incredibly blessed that Nana watches Isabella while I'm at work, and I never worry about her. My only fear is that Nana will have such fun toys over at her place that Bella won't want to stay at home with us! :o) ANYWAY, I think Isabella makes an adorable hula girl!
It's almost like she's thinking, "Okay, I'll sit through one more picture, but then you'd better bust out some food!" Her appetite continues to amaze me. Some meals I'll nurse her, then turn around and feed her a 5 ounce tub of baby food (I make my own), and she's still ready for more after that sometimes!

She hasn't shown any signs of teeth, but I know they're coming. I snapped this shot of her "baldy gums" because they are absolutely precious. I still can't believe that between me and Joshua, we have a green-eyed, red-haired baby! Her hair is actually brown, but under the kitchen lights looks completely red!
Baby kisses! I am ALWAYS-and I do mean always-smooching on Bella. It's one of my favorite things to do with her. We're teaching her to give hugs too-that's my other favorite thing. I snagged these shots of us myself, so that probably explains the photography.
Another big girl step: sitting up in a cart. I had her in her carseat in stores, but she kept trying to sit up. And if you've seen the angle she's reclined at in that thing, that was quite a feat! I decided to move her to "big girl status" and plop her in the cart. She LOVES it, even in Bed, Bath & Beyond!

And these are fruit puffs, the equivalent of gold pieces to Isabella-they are precious and much-loved! They allow me to cook dinner while she tries to feed them to herself. God bless the folks at Gerber who came up with these! So here's how it goes: I sign to Isabella if she wants to eat (we're teaching her sign language). As soon as she sees the container she starts getting excited, and it's gotten to the point where I can't even pour them out now before she's pouncing on them from the tray or the container itself! She gets one in her fist, then sticks her whole fist in her mouth and sucks until she disintegrates it. Finding fruit puffs and half-eaten mushed fruit puffs is a way of life. They are truly disgusting when pulled out of her hands, off her clothes, or wiped from her high chair tray, but she doesn't care. You can feed them to her endlessly, and I like doing that because a)she opens her mouth like a baby bird and 2)she proceeds to suck on them like an old coot with no teeth and it's adorable.
Jen, the grass skirt pictures are so precious! She is quite a beauty!
